SPRENDLINGEN, GERMANY, September, 10th, 2007 - Small, smaller... The RP15-SAW. The new 15 watts power package out of the RECOM Power Laboratory combines ultra-miniature dimensions with ultra-wide input voltage ranges- an optimized combination for most applications. Until a few years ago the industrial standard for 15 watts DC/DC-modules was 1.6" x 2" (40.6 x 50.8mm) and is currently at 1" x 2" (25.4 x 50.8mm). The new revolutionary RECOM- standard for the RP-15xxxxSA resp.RP-15-xxxxSAW stands at an incredible 1"x1" (25.4 x 25.4mm) pegging the height at 0.39" (10mm).

Karsten M. Bier,President of RECOM International Power stated, "Our aim in developing this new standard setting DC/DC-converter family was not only to reduce the case size by 50%, but to employ the latest state of the art material and manufacturing methods, to also significantly reduce the price per watt."

High efficiency grades up to 87% are a must for these galvanically isolated DC/DC-converters, and guarantee trouble free operation at ambient temperatures exceeding 60°C, without external cooling measures (packing density reaches 2.3W/cm3). Heat-sinks with the corresponding fixtures can be supplied by RECOM to further increase the operating temperature range, should this be required. Simple external filtering (also available from RECOM) ensures class B of EMV-standard EN-55022. The outputs are trimmable in the range +/-10% of nominal output voltage - a remote ON/OFF function enables external ON/OFF switching. Electrical specifications are as follows: 2:1 inputs 9-18V, 18-36Vand 36-75V as well as 4:1 input ranges 9-36V 18-75V. Output voltages are set at 3,3V, 5V, 12V and 15V. The output rating is 15W, the isolation voltage 1600VDC.
The casing consists of 6-sided nickel coated copper material. Vacuum potting qualifies these converters for the most stringent temperature and vibration conditions.
OEM-volume prices (quantity 1000 units) for this new product generation range from US$ 23.89 for converters with 2:1 inputs to US$ 26.27 for converters with 4:1 inputs.
